Indigenous People in Australia

Aborigines were the first people on Australia, and they deserve a huge amount of respect. Their history and culture can be found in every aspect of Sydney, through paintings, artefacts, important sites, their culture and history. It is important to acknowledge them as the first inhabitants of Sydney, and that their culture should be respected.

Thousands of years before White Settlement, Aboriginals were leading the writing of the history of Australia, and Aboriginal elders were leading generations of their people into the future, entrusting them with admirable skills and knowledge. Today, after all the hardships white colonisation has brought, they have come through and are a huge part of our community and our country. Aboriginal leaders are pivotal to society and it is essential that their culture and heritage is preserved, acknowledged and celebrated.
